Hi, I’m Torgeir.

I'm a Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years of experience. Originally from Norway, I have called Australia home for the past two decades. My fascination with the human mind and a genuine desire to help people led me to pursue extensive academic and clinical training across Australia and internationally.

I see therapy as a partnership. My job is to understand what's actually going on for you, help you make sense of it, and work with you on what needs to change — at a pace that fits you.

Experience

For most of my career I have worked in tertiary settings, supporting adults through the complexities of identity, relationships, academic pressure, and mental health. Over time my work expanded across all adult life stages — helping people navigate everything from acute crisis to longer-term patterns that keep them stuck.

I have worked across university counselling services, clinical settings, and private practice, with individuals from widely diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. That breadth of experience has made me a more attuned, adaptable clinician — and reinforced my belief that good therapy starts with genuinely understanding of your difficulties, history and patterns.

Across 20 years and over 12,000 sessions with more than 1,500 people, one thing has remained constant — I will understand what goes on for you, and I will understand what keeps you stuck, so that together we can find a different path.

Approach

Over two decades I have heard thousands of stories — and I mean the whole story, not just the parts people think I want to hear. This is a space to be open, vulnerable, and honest. I am genuinely honored when people share that with me, and I never take it lightly.

I am comfortable sitting with distress, which means whatever you want to talk about, I can hear. I can hold space when things are hard, listen without judgement, and hear whatever needs to be said.

Much of what I do is about understanding how childhood, significant life events, and the environments we've been exposed and how they show up in the present. I believe we can still live the life we want, despite all of that. When we understand something, we fear it less. Whether that's our history, situation, emotions, our tendencies, or our ways of being - understanding brings choice. And with choice comes the freedom to live more true to ourselves.

Sessions are practical and collaborative. I'll be direct when that's useful and patient when that's what's needed. The goal isn't just to feel better in the short term — it's to build genuine insight and lasting skills that hold up when life gets hard again.

Whatever brings you here, the work will be grounded, honest, and focused on what actually matters to you.
